Athletics and Team Sports

Our athletic program emphasizes Christian fellowship, sportsmanship, and teamwork.  Team sports are offered for students in the fifth through eighth grades.  Fourth grade student participation is reviewed on a yearly sport-by-sport basis, which means that fourth graders are often allowed to participate in certain team sports.

Cross Country

Runners of all ability levels are encouraged to join the St. John cross country team.  The goal for each student-athlete is to increase endurance, speed, and instill a love of running to last a lifetime.  Meets are held at various courses/schools around Central Illinois.  Practices are held at the University of Illinois Arboretum.  Cross Country season is early August - mid October.

Girls Basketball

Basketball at St. John is all about encouraging teamwork, along with teaching the rules and skills necessary to play competitively.   All levels and abilities are welcome.

Basketball at St. John is all about encouraging teamwork, along with teaching the rules and skills necessary to play competitively. All levels and abilities are welcome.  St. John currently has a Varsity basketball team, but will provide opportunities for younger student-athletes to develop their skills.

Volleyball

Volleyball at St. John emphasizes developing fundamental skills, learning all of the positions and rules, as well as communicating effectively with teammates.  Players develop physically as well as socially as leadership skills and communication are developed.  St. John currently has  JV and Varsity volleyball teams.

Track and Field

Track and Field at St. John provides opportunities for students to challenge themselves.  Whether student-athletes want to compete by sprinting, jumping, running distance, or throwing, St. John coaches will teach the skills and help with individual goal-setting.
